ExplainedA solid ordinary explanation fits the evidence.

The claim
"Mystery drones swarmed New Jersey night after night."
Where the idea comes from
Hundreds of reports of large drones over New Jersey and neighbouring states led to temporary flight restrictions and national news.

What the evidence shows
- In January 2025 the White House said the drones were authorised by the Federal Aviation Administration for research and other purposes.
- The FBI and Homeland Security reviewed thousands of tips and found most were manned aircraft, hobby drones and stars or planets.
- Sightings grew as more people looked up and filmed planes on approach to the region's busy airports.
What is still open
The government gave few details about the authorised flights, which leaves room for speculation, but nothing points to non-human craft.
Our verdict
Explained Authorised drones plus many planes and stars.
