The claim
"A former intelligence officer testified under oath that the US holds crashed craft and non-human bodies."
Where the idea comes from
David Grusch, a former Air Force and intelligence officer, filed a whistleblower complaint in 2022 and testified to a House Oversight subcommittee on 26 July 2023.

What the evidence shows
- Grusch said he learned of a decades-long crash retrieval and reverse-engineering program from interviews with others; he did not claim to have seen craft or bodies himself.
- He said he gave classified details to the Inspector General and to Congress in closed sessions.
- In March 2024 AARO's historical record report (volume 1) said it found no evidence that any US government program had ever recovered extraterrestrial technology, and traced many stories to misidentified classified programs.
- Supporters say AARO did not get access to the relevant programs; volume 2 has not been released.
What is still open
Sworn testimony is not evidence that can be checked. A document, photograph or object released through official channels would change this. Weigh the explanations and vote.
Our verdict
Unproven Serious claims under oath, with no evidence anyone can examine yet.

The competing explanations
Our summary of the main hypotheses, with what supports and what counts against each one.
Classified human programmes, misread
For AARO traced several crash-retrieval stories to real secret programmes that people misunderstood.
Against Supporters say AARO never got access to the programmes Grusch described.
Sincere but second-hand stories
For Grusch said he learned of the programme from others and did not see craft or bodies himself.
Against He says his sources are credible and have spoken to the Inspector General.
Deliberate disinformation
For Intelligence agencies have spread UFO stories before to cover real programmes.
Against No direct evidence for that here either.
True: the US holds non-human craft
For Sworn testimony; the Inspector General found his complaint "credible and urgent" (a procedural finding, not a finding of fact).
Against No document, photo or object has been shown publicly since 2023.
